Little Mathletics Mini-Interview: Sonic Preservation

I must admit - I’m not particularly excited about any of the next-gen Sonic games. The PS3 and Xbox 360 game looks a bit crap, but then, I hated Sonic Heroes, so I would say that. I was kind of excited about Sonic Wildfire, but Sega have just changed the name to Sonic and the Secret Rings, which is a crap name and makes me not want to play it ever, despite the fact that it looks a bit like the cancelled Sonic Xtreme.
But I’m rambling.
The point is, there are other people who are looking forward to the new Sonic games even less than I am, though their reasoning is different, and, might I say, slightly more justified than “looks a bit crap” or “is a crap name”. Their main problem is the fact that, as you can probably tell from the above picture, the production company 4kids, who were previously just involved with the Sonic X cartoon, are now also voicing the games. Apparently, a lot of people consider them vastly inferior to the previous voice actors used, which is a question of taste, I guess.
Now, regular visitors here will recognise my disdain for fanboyism - especially message board fanboyism. I can’t stand people simply sitting around on their computers whinging about PS3 this, and Wii that. That’s what impressed me so much about the above picture, which was originally posted on Kotaku. People taking their fury to the streets! Like in the good old days! Admittedly, Alex Prins-Stairs, who put that and other posters up, does have a message board dedicated to the cause, but he describes it as just “where we fans are gathering”.
I asked him a few questions about the anti-4kids movement, and he sent me some very, very detailed responses, which was very cool. Because as much as I hate whinging, I dig passion.
Can you give me any background on what you liked about the previous voice actors, and what you dislike about the new ones?
Well what I liked about the previous voice actors is how well a lot of them sounded like the original Japanese voice actors by attitude and sometimes by sound. Knuckles for example, his previous voice actor Scott Drier captured the same attitude an near same voice as his Japanese voice actor Nobutoshi Canna. Both gave Knuckles a calm attitude but for when he got angry, they made it show. While Dan Green (the 4Kids voice actor) makes Knuckles sound gruff all the time and near never calm. For the child character Miles “Tails” Prower, in the US he has always sounded like a real little boy, which is probably because all his voice actors since the animated series from DIC have been child voice actors (with the exception of the voice actor from the ADV dubbed Sonic Anime). However when 4Kids used Amy Palant for Tails, he lost his childish tone and gained a more feminine tone. While in Japan it is true that Tails is voice by a woman there, she does give Tails more of the childish tone he is known for.
My main complaints are the 4Kids voices of Sonic, Cream, Vector, Rouge and Charmy as are in the opinions of others I have met as well. Sonic’s old voice actor Ryan Drummond gave Sonic personality and attitude. He made Sonic sound excited when needed and serious when needed as does his Japanese voice actor Junichi Kanemaru. While with Jason Griffith from 4Kids Entertainment, he hardly gives Sonic any emotion, a good example of this is the game Sonic Rush. If that is compared to the voices in the games Sonic Battle and Sonic Advance 3, you would notice the difference.
The main complaint of Jason Griffith’s Sonic voice is that is lacks excitement and emotion and sounds a little odd to some by sound as well. With Cream the Rabbit, originally I was not able to tell the differences between her game voice actor Sarah Wulfeck and her 4Kids voice actress Rebecca Handler (known as “Rebecca Honig” when voicing Cream) until I played Sonic Battle. When I played that game, I heard how she giggled and how she yelled, it really showed her as a little girl. While with Rebecca Handler I have recently noticed her tone when speaking loudly as Cream. She makes Cream sound very high pitched and screechy making her very irritating and very hard to understand, there are even some people who hate her because of that and I find that sad that a voice actress could give a voice so bad that it would make a cute, sweet little character like her be hated.
Rouge’s original English voice in many fan’s opinions had great acting and the sound of the voice matched her as she is very feminine and young (she’s 17) as was her Japanese voice of Rumi Ochiai. While her 4Kids voice actor Caren Manuel (credited as Kathleen Delaney with her involvement in the Sonic Franchise and a few other things) has made Rouge sound old (30 to 40 in the opinions of many I have talked to) and also lacked a lot of the emotion of both Rouge’s original English and her Japanese voice actresses. Kathleen’s voice of Rouge is also criticized for being stereotypical to how Rouge looks and acts making more peoples opinion of her is of her being a slut.
Charmy Bee’s old voice actors (English and Japanese) gave him the personality his character bio reveal of him, that of a scatterbrained and energetic 6 year old boy. Both voices IMO sounded very much the same but sound and attitude. While Amy Birnbaum does not give the same young tone to Charmy and makes his sound like a 14 year old instead of a 6 year old. More to the problem, Charmy sounds more sarcastic then he does excited now. With Vector the Crocodile, in Japanese he has a very gruff and serious tone. While in Sonic Heroes he had a very gruff tone with a New Yorker accent, doesn’t sound AS serious as the Japanese, but is better then the 4Kids one as it is very high pitched and dorky. The other voice actors I don’t have as much of a problem with their replacements but I like the old of them as well and prefer the old for some as well like Shadow the Hedgehog.
Do you have a particular problem with 4kids?
I didn’t originally before the Sonic controversy, I even tried to defend 4Kids before all this. However after the voice of Cream in Sonic X Season 2 got to me, I then decided to compare a little between voices of the Sonic Franchise and other anime, I understood why the voice actors were such a big deal, as well as noticing some of the edits on the show which I personally think were not necessary to be cut and/or changed, nor the over Americanization of characters and places and other companies like VIZ Media with Hamtaro and Zatch Bell! and Saban (Now a part of Disney) was with Mushrambo (Shinzo in English), Mon Colle Knights and Digimon, all shows that aired on Fox Saturday mornings before 4Kids bought the block.
Also a few of the statements and such have me to believe that 4Kids is an uncaring company and that some of the changes help in someway add to racism, like the change of a black guy to a white guy on One Piece, and the adding of a turban and a beard to a normal looking guy who was arrested on the show Yu-Gi-Oh! where if kids got interested in the originals and saw the differences, it may make them ask questions leading to race and the kids thinking oddly of certain people and things. Also a few other controversies involved have added to my dislike and disgust of 4Kids.
Do you think you’ve got the attention of Sega?
Well it’s hard to say. I have made many calls to Sega of America and have talked to both Scott Steinberg, VP of Marketing and to someone in Customer services about this. The call with Scott went surprisingly well, he listened to what I had to say and was asking me not to boycott while I responded that I was sorry but unless the voices are returned that we will boycott as it is a huge complaint from many fans. The call with customer services have been aware of my calls but say they can’t do much as the decision was made in Japan so I have been taking my concern to Sega of Japan now. Though customer services have said they would email me when they got a box of petitions and such to show the controversy so they would let me know that they got it, they have yet to respond to me.
I sent a copy of what was in the box to both Sega of America and Sega of Japan at customer services as that was were I was told to mail to. I have however received a rumor from one of my friends who is a part of this movement and one of the people I am representing that Sega of Japan wants the old voice actors back and I got this a few weeks after I sent my copy of the papers of information to Japan. However as it is just a rumor, I can not yet say it is true or not. But as we seem to get a few new supporters ever week or few, I would say we will have a better chance of getting more attention soon.
What do you like about the current Sonic games? They seem kind of unpopular with long-time Sonic fans, and I think the voice acting (well, the inclusion of voices, really) is a big part of that.
Well personally I have been a fan of Sonic since the first video game for the Sega Genesis came out so I am a long-time Sonic fan myself. However I am more trying of new things and when I tried the game Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, I found it different yet very interesting in how combined with cut scenes and voices to tell a storyline. To me it was not much different then the Mario games, which I also found really cool.
The first time I heard Ryan Drummond as Sonic was in a McDonald’s happy meal commercial, and when I heard it the voice sounded really energetic and teenage, to me better then Jaleel White [Ed: yes, Urkel was the voice of Sonic in the original cartoons] as Ryan’s seemed to add more emotion. I was never into the new games at first until I saw that commercial, then I wanted to see if those voices were in the games. However before I played one of the games with the voices, I watched Sonic X in English when it premiered on Fox. To me some of there voices on it were weird from the start for the characters. The first voices I heard were Sonic, Cream, Eggman, Tails, and Knuckles and Amy. The first voices on that show to weird me out were Tails and Knuckles. I am very used to Tails sounding like a child as I was a fan of the DIC animated cartoons and hearing that raspy sounding voice on the show weirded me out as did Knuckles sounding like Yugi Moto as I was also a fan of the Yu-Gi-Oh! dub at the time. Then my friend let me borrow his copy of Sonic Adventure 2 Battle and when I played it, I really enjoyed it and I enjoyed the voices even more.
To me in the game, Sonic sounded more energetic and confident in the game then he did on Sonic X which made me question if they were the same actor as they sounded simular and I later found out they weren’t which explained the difference in attitude. The voice that was the biggest joy to me in that game was Tails’ has he had the voice of a kid like he did in all the previous American animated series. And Knuckles sounded more calm and focused then he did in Sonic X, hearing those made me really get an interest in the new games, and the game play was really good in my eyes as was the storyline. To me Sonic Adventure 2 Battle was a great new game for the world of Sonic the Hedgehog which lead me to buy a Dreamcast so I could get Sonic Adventure 1. When I played it, I felt it had some really great game play as well and even had a few things that reminded me of the 2-D games, the voice acting for some of the characters however I felt was not as good as it was in the sequel, but as that was the first game with the voices and that the second game did have better voice acting, I decided to ignore it and accept it as the actor’s first try, and the voice of Knuckles in that game was not as fond of as I was the Adventure 2 voice.
When I got Sonic Heroes, I was relieved it had the old voices and I liked Tails’ new voice a little more as it was younger sounding and closer to the SatAM and AoStH voice IMO. I also liked Cream’s voice in that game more. On Sonic Heroes I found the lack of story telling compared to the last games kind of disappointing, but I loved how the levels were put together and the special stages were, to me it seemed to put the game closer to it’s 2-D Roots. Then I bought the Game Boy Advance games and was surprised we well the Advance series was close to the original 2-D games. And when I got Sonic Battle, it was the first 2-D game I heard voices in, then I got Sonic Advance 3, I felt those games even with brief clips gave some of the best performance, it showed great improvement from many of the voice actors from the previous games they were in, Sonic Heroes I felt was the best performance of the 3-D games while I felt the 2-D games were better in performance.
However, when I heard the of 4Kids voice actors taking over the games, I was a little uneasy about it at first but I also thought to myself “How bad can it be?” so I bought the first three games in this order Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic Riders and Sonic Rush. Shadow the Hedgehog I felt the performance of Shadow was better then it was in the show while the other voice actors sounded the same, the acting however was not as good as I was used to. The voice that got to me was Vector’s. Then I played Sonic Riders, I thought Dan Green improved as Knuckles a little, but the acting of everyone else was still as bad, I found it sad honestly, the original voice actors from the Sonic games improved greatly after Sonic Adventure to a professional level, while the 4Kids voice actors who had been acting for years were still doing bad acting.
But I played Sonic Rush to test how the voices were for clips and side-scrolling and they were disgusting, the worst voice acting I had ever heard in a Sonic game. It made it too hard and unbearable for me to enjoy the game play so I sold the ENG version on eBay and replaced it with the Japanese version and compared to that version and the English versions of the GBA Sonic games, best voice acting I had ever heard. I felt the game play in Sonic Rush was very good but as the voices were bad enough to make the game that enjoyable in English. It’s pretty much as well as the constant complaining from fans is what got me interested in starting this boycott on Sonic Next-Gen to keep people from buying it unless Sega gave into our demands. Especially another thing that inspired me was the fact that those 4Kids voices were also making fans start to hate Sonic. Sad thing is that effect is coming to me as well because of these voices as many complain about it all the time making it hard on me to enjoy older Sonic games.
Finally - what’s your role in the movement, and how did it begin?
I am Alex/Ed P.S. (Ed for short) and I am the founder of this movement organization as I guess you can put it, I have asked many others if they would be on board for this before I started and they said yes which is what got me to start. People in both the US and the UK are getting into this.

You were right about Tails’s voice. This guy I know thought Tails was a girl.
4kids has said anime is for adults. However if you are against 4kids you are robbing kids of their childhood. I do not work for 4kids but my son loves them. And he would be sad to see them go is that what we want to happen?
Ah yes, “Super Hyper”, sorry we want to keep your children from having to see racism and butchered art, as there’s nothing else on TV that children can watch other than 4Kids.
But seriously, nice article, though Mike Pollock is a good replacement for the late Deem Bristow(RIP) as Dr. Eggman (aka Dr. Robotnik).

Well, actually, I think I know why.
Perhaps a VA of Sonic X got jealous of another VA for getting in the anime AND the games and decided to quit, or worse, kill the Sonic X “Eggman” voice.
I’m not a fan of Sonic X. I feel as though the american voiceovers for the cartoon are very crappy. They should be changed with better voice actors but at the same time I feel simpathy for the current voice actors. For some reason I notice this seems to be a problem with alot of foriegn cartoons that have to be dubbed in English, specifically the ones made in japan. From the sound of it, voice acting in these cartoons doesn’t seem to be such an easy job to do.

I’ve been a huge fan of Sonic ever since 1991, he’s one of my all-time favourite characters, but the fact remains that it is a GAME. And whilst I can understand and respect why people are so annoyed, I just can’t fathom why they’re making such a huge deal of it. Boycotting SEGA isn’t going to make a difference at all in my opinion. The voice actors will probably have changed again in a few years’ time anyway.
Besides, I’ve noticed that they’re all improving, especially Jason Griffith. As far as I can see he’s identical to Shadow’s old VA. They’re trying and that’s the best they can do. In fact, I thought the voice acting in Sonic “Next Gen” was rather good.
Although I’ll agree that some of the acting in Sonic X was pretty horrific. And Cream’s and Rouge’s new voices bother me somewhat, but at the end of the day it’s not the fans’ decision, and it’s unlikely that SEGA of Japan are going to listen to a bunch of people with nothing else to worry about than who’s going to be voicing over upright talking 3-foot-tall hedgehog cartoon characters for the next 3 years or so.
If it really bothers you that much, turn the sound off and read the subtitles, or even buy japanese copies of the games.

Deep down, all Tails wants to do is live a happpy and peaceful life with his big brother. He must have been in so much agonizing pain than ever before. They will love each other as brothers forever and ever!
4. Bring back Hyper Sonic (Super Saiyan 2 Sonic=gnarly action!!!)
5. Absolutelt love to see Super Saiyan 3 & 4 (aka Mega Sonic, 3, and Giga Sonic, 4

The voices from the anime to the 360 game are very hellish.
Other issues I want bring up:
1. I am getting very, very tired of those battles in space! It always seems to happen in almost every Sonic game! I don’t like it!

2. Does anybody want live their life on a forever war-torn planet in a galaxy and have their family and friends all around you be turned into robots and then into slaves or minions thus turning you into an orphan or suffer the same fate? NO!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hate the Archie comics!!!!! Life on Earth is just fine, thank you very much!
3. Did I mention those awful voice actors? GET RID OF THEM!!!!!!!!!!
4. Bring back the old characters, we miss them!

I messed up on how Blaze would sound. Even though she would sound strict, she would also sound quiet like it says in her bio.
And also, I forgot to mention how Espio sounded in the anime. He sounded like Hugh Hefner! I think Dave Whittenburg, better known as the voice of Kakashi Hatake on Naruto, would do a great job as Espio.
After reading this about a cuople time, I now realize just how racicst 4kids is. THEY NEED TO BE SHUT DOWN 4EVER. I can’t stand hate like that and the guy arresested in Yugioh changed into a man with a turban and a beard just show the amount of hate that these people are sending to children. How in the world is THAT kid friendly. “They’re just ki’s shows” the hell they are! And to think I used to like these people. Ugh… I feel sick just thinking about it. Hmm… Since Sonic X is over sega won’t need the 4kids voice actors anymore. Will they? Also 4kids make all great anime suck (Cream’s voice make’s me hate her to). They remove important scenes, plots, and even entire episodes of any anime they get their greedy hands on. And Sonic stripped of his teenage years to a pathetic voice actor who is making him sound like he hit puberty. I played Sonic and the secret rings recently(Wild Fire was a better name for the title) and it was good, but I cannot stand Sonic, tails, and knuckles they make me Sick with their voices. So I change the language ( The language change returns hooray). Oh and 1 more thing… Ryan Drummond we miss you, David Humhprey, and the people that did the voices for tails and knuckles. Plus R.I.P. Deem Bristow.
I was thinking Vic Mignogna, better known as the voice of Edward Elric in Full Metal Alchemist, would make a excellent voice for Sonic. For Shadow, I was thinking Steve Staley, the voice of Neji Hyuuga in Naruto. For little Tails, I had Aaron Dismuke in mind who is the voice of Alphonse Elric in Full Metal Alchemist. Lastly, for Knuckles, I thought Kyle Hebert with Naruto’s Kiba Inuzuka’s voice. If you want you can take some time to think about those voice actors and think how they would do as the next Sonic voices. Also, you can take some time to think about the other characters’s new voice actors listed above listed under Username: mike, as well as the returning characters’s voices listed further below.
I have a lot more, no, tons and tons of issues I have with 4kids that mainly involves Sonic X.
1. The voices came from Hell.
2. The only person that cried in the series was Tails at the series finnale. HE DID NOT DESERVE THAT KIND PAIN!!!!!! IT CONSTANTLY MAKES ME SICK WHEN I SEE THAT HORRIBLE MOMENT AT THE END OF THE SERIES!!!!!! THEY RUINED HIS LIFE!!!!!! SONIC JUST STOOD THERE AND DID NOTHING AND JUST WATCHED HIM CRY!!!!!! SONIC, IN MY OPINION, WAS THE ONE WHO WAS TORMENTING HIM BY NOT SHOWING ANY LOVE AT ALL!!!!!! THAT IS NOT WHAT SONIC, HIS OWN BIG BROTHER, WOULD DO!!!!!! SONIC WAS A JERK!!!!!! Shadow, in one episode, was just touched. He didn’t cry at all. (Tails, it’s all over now. Your big brother’s there for you and you’ll get a new voice soon. You’ll never have to experience that kind of pain and torment ever again!) The true Sonic would always be there for the little kitsune cub like the big brother he is. Why, if I was Sonic, I would always be there for Tails when he sad or lonely or whatever too and I would do something right by instantly adopt him just like he did. In other words, I would do the same thing! In other other words, Tails and Sonic deserve to be with each other! (Sigh, You guys know what I’m trying to say, right?)
3. The characters also made too many life threatening decisions. Tails and Cream, for instance, are only children!
4. 4Kids made many, many horrible decisions. (#2 and #3)
5. SONIC AND TAILS HAD NO BOND WHATSOEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
6. About #2. What I am really trying to say is that I really, really, really, really, really want Sonic and Tails to be with each other forever as loving and caring brothers. And I really also want Sonic to show his love when Tails needs it! Surely you guys know what I am talking about, right? And I’m sure you guys also feel the same way deep down.

Yeah, I’m a Sonic fan of old, and I’ll play ‘em all no matter what (read my comments on IMDB about Sonic the Hedgehog 2006), because I want to support the growth of this series, but I think a peition really is a little much.
I want my old VA’s back, fine, and that’s about as much attention as Sega really needs from me, because no matter how much I give them, I’m only going to get the same response.
So guess what? They know what we want them to do now. It’s time to move on from that and go on to our next abomination, or maybe even something good! (Like that’d happen…)
Don’t boycott the games, that’s counterprodcutive. They need money in that department in order to continue it, so damn it, I’m giving it to them. Not at $60, though, since voice acting is not ALL that this game is lacking…

Then give them to Sega (in one well-written letter… not spam PLEASE. We don’t need them to look down at us more than they already do) and keep hoping. Great news! Jason Griffith could be fired from 4kids! From what I heard just now and if I heard it correctly, Jason Griffith could be fired if does the voice for one of the Sinnoh gym leaders in Pokemon: Diamond and Pearl because he violated his contract. It says that the original cast of Pokemon can’t return until the 11th season. The only thing is that he’ll be under an alias and 4kids might not know. But if they do, this could be the biggest break for our beloved speed demon. All we can do now is wait and see what happens.
Al Kahn just recently made another speech and this one is pretty big. During an anime and manga conference, Kahn said in his speech that “Japan is over”, “manga is slowly dying in Japan”, and that Japanese TV anime was “tired”, “in the doldrums”, and that many of the concepts were “too derivative”. What this clearly means is that Al Khan…is ANTI-JAPANESE! A lot of you guys might think he’s being retarded and whiney because he’s not getting what he wants, but after I watched a video about this on YouTube, this could mean that Sonic is in grave danger! Al kahn is going to start doing more than the voices and make the U.S. version of the games themselves if they offer Sega enough money! Getting Ryan Drummond bach to do the voice Sonic in Brawl may be the only to stop him! WE CANNOT ALLOW THIS MADMAN TO DESTROY ANIME AND VIDEO GAMING ANYMORE!!! TO OBLIVION WITH 4KIDS!!!

Hrm… I don’t know… I surely don’t want Jason to do Sonic’s voice anymore, but I do feel as if he did an alright job for Shadow’s voice in Sonic 360. In fact… Shadow was the only character done right in Sonic 360.
I’d love to have his original voice actor back though. Shadow came on, cool, creepy, and electrified in SA2, just as Sonic’s rival should have been. Too bad they’re less of rivals anymore… they should bring that back into proper light somehow, y’know, with a well done Sonic 3D platformer that is worked on for more than just a year.
Back to main topic… Elise’s voice was terrible. At least Sega made human people look… well, HUMAN, this time around!

Apparently, the contract that Sega has with 4 Kids will end somewhere in Q1 or Q2 2008.
I don’t mind the voices, as long as the story line and gameplay is good, like the standard of it in SA2. They should change the extremely annoying voices, like Vector’s (FIND THE DAMN COMPUTER ROOM YOURSELF!), or at least make the voices actually suit the characters. I had no complaints on Shadow’s 4 Kids voice, but Rouge is just plain wrong, she’s meant to be 17! Not 30!
Btw, Taylor Baker, I think you’re getting a bit too worked up with the changes. It’s not that bad, the only mistake the Sega made with the contract with 4 Kids. 4 Kids are the ones that made everything worse in Sonic X (NOO TAILS!! *HUGS*) and the games. 4 Kids probably won’t agree to work with a company that creates such violent games (VIOLENCE IS GUUURRRDDDDDDDD), so I think Sega probably toned down the games. It’s all them. They cut out half of the entire series of Sonic X, and made the dubs awful because of the following:
*Strong language (Understandable)
*Blood (What’s wrong with blood? You see it everyday)
*Rouge’s cleavage (Because stupid little kids are so immature)
*Violence (You see it everyday, also.)
*Loads of other pointless reasons that are just gay tbh.

I have decided that Sega and Sonic Team are corrupt for the following reasons.
1. They don’t listen to what the fans and they don’t about the fans.
2. They have killed off too many characters and legends who I came to know and love. They are the following: Vectorman, Ristar, Mighty, Ray, Bark, Bean, Metal Knuckles, Metal Tails, Big, Shinobi, Otogi, Virtual On, and more that I can’t list.
3. They spreaded their corruption and sucking disease to Nights.
4. They have brought even more shame and disgrace when they released Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games. This was supposed to be Mario and Sonic’s first time together and they completely butchered it. How shameful and disgraceful, I say again. I hope Brawl turns out better.
5. They made a pack with the Anime Anti-Christ, 4Kids. The characters have become out of place and distorted and most of the voices just plain suck complete ass!
6. They have been beating Sonic to a bloody pulp and they’re still in the lead. Recent gaming polls show that Sega has jumped from 11th place to 6th place. That doesn’t make any fucking sense! They’re not making any success, they’re getting away with murder!
7. They release the games way too fast. Just because Sonic is fast, doesn’t mean his games have to be done fast! The games sre unfinished and there are glitches and problems everywhere. You want to know why there have been so many Brawl delays? Because Nintendo wants to make it good!
There are so many other reasons but I just can’t quite think of any.

Guys, I’m really hurt right now. People are actually disliking Sonic in Brawl. There rebelling against the most wanted character for Brawl. I have been seeing fan art of people killing him, and people bashing him just because he’s in Brawl. Hasn’t he been threw enough pain and torment already? Sonic was THE number one most wanted 3rd-party character by many people and now there are twice or thrice as many people who are bashing him and want him gone from the game. His moves and techniques almost perfectly match to the moves in his old sprite and they’re still bashing him. This is really painful for me and I need help and some support. Please. Sonic doesn’t deserve this pain! Please respond to this.

I can’t believe that there are people out there who actually LIKE Jason Griffith. They even go as far as saying that he’s much better than Ryan Drummond! The show I’ll admit had no Emotion especially near the end.

I just found out yesterday that Ryan Drummond is about a child. He needs his job back.

Fans have recently spoken to Ryan and he himself said that he would love to do Sonic again. Knowing that we only a couple of weeks before the 4kids cast is dropped, this may be a good time to get him bach for the next Sonic Unleashed game. For those of you who said he quit, he’s still a voice actor.
Their is also a campaign for Ryan in Sonic Chronicles for the DS.

Taylor’s right. Jason Griffith’s just cannot control his pitch. Sonic, Jet, and Ussop are the saddest examples. Ryan is clearly better and his wife successfuly had a son, Danny Drummond. Congrats, Ryan.
Should Griffith even be considered an actor? His voice constantly flies off the handle and he has little respect towards fans of Sonic and HIS fans! He surely does not deserve to be called an actor! Thank God Sonny Strait does Ussop now.

I have no clue but probably because Al Khan is hypocrite. On a related note, I have news. The 4kids contract with Sega didn’t end. BUT there is campaign going on to get Sean Schemmel to replace Jason. Call Sega of America to pass a suggestion on to Sega of Japan so they can pass it on to 4kids.

This new campaign about switching the 4kids voices came from username Spax3. His polls show that most people voted Sean Schemmel (Goku) for Sonic, Veronica Taylor (April O’Niel) for Rouge, Amy Birbaum (Max) for Tails, Amy Palant (Dorie) for Amy, Marc Diraison (Zolo) for Knuckles, and Mike Sinterniklaas (Leonardo) for Shadow. Sega may have finally snapped together. Sonic Unleashed and Chronicles may turn out to be good games. Now would be a great time to fight for the voices. If you still want to call for Ryan, that’s fine but we need these new 4kids voices for a back-up plan. True that gameplay was more important in the past but Sega may be steering in the right direction and NOW we CAN fight for getting good voices to fit the personalities.

Good God! I just came back from chatting with other fans on this same issue I find a rebellion against 4kids! I saw the video and it’s retarded. Spax is just too blind by his hatred of Jason Griifth.

Some of the games are getting more violent. Shadow The Hedgehog and Next-Gen Sonic are rated E 10 . I think Sonic and Shadow sound better with 4Kids voices.

Shadow the Hedgehog is the only dark one I no of. Griiffith is okay as Shadow but he can’t control his pitch in the slightest when doing Sonic. He makes him sound like a dork and that’s why I hate Griffith’s guts. How can you call that talent? Me and my friends certainly think he’s terrible! I HATE 4KIDS.
