Wow, that took a little longer than expected. So, I’ve really got no idea what happened over the past few weeks in the world of videogames - though a quick glance has shown me that it doesn’t seem like very much at all, especially considering the holiday in the US and all.
But, here’s a few things that I got up to before I spent two weeks dealing with a thoroughly unpleasant telephone service provider, and didn’t have time to put up here:
Firstly, there was an interview at GameSetWatch with John Gillotte, who is working on a port of Quake for the DS. I know this sounds a little unexciting, what with the PC version easily (and freely) obtainable these days, but it’s more about the homebrew DS scene. Incidentally, if anyone knows anyone else in the scene who is doing anything interesting, let me know. I’m fascinated by the whole thing, even though I’m completely unable to play any homebrew stuff, since I don’t have a flash card and am well and truly too poor to buy one.
Secondly, there was a review of the Da Vinci Code up at The Gaming Shack Network. I try to keep things professional when I’m reviewing, which is why it’s nice to have somewhere like here to complain about the game, without having to justify myself too much. So let me just say that I, personally, thought the game was a fucking cancer on the ball-sac of the gaming industry. That should do it.
Lastly, and this probably only applies to a small group of people, but anyone reading this in Adelaide, Australia, should probably endeavour to pick up a copy of DB Magazine, which has been printing my reviews for a little while now. Last issue I did Hitman: Blood Money, which was one of the most polished games I’ve played in ages, and well deserving of its dominance of the gaming charts at the moment.
However, as of this issue, you can also read the games reviews online - including my review of The Incredibles: Rise of the Underminer, which was pretty goddamn underwhelming.
For the next one they’ve got me playing through the Street Fighter Alpha Anthology, which I gather is pretty good, and even though I seriously suck at and dislike fighting games, I’ll try and give it a fair review. I just won’t be playing it much afterwards.
Good to be back, and all.
