Souptoys Are Freetoys

Posted on Tuesday 18 July 2006

I’m generally loath to steal use links from GameSetWatch, but this one’s got me excited enough to do so. Souptoys, the physics based desktop toybox, is now available for free, which is certainly a hell of a lot better than their previously offered 60-minute trial.

This was first reported on Matthew Wegner’s awesome Fun-Motion physics gaming blog - he described the game as “a fun time waster”. It’s a damn sight better than most free downloadable desktop toys, that’s for sure. I guess maybe it’s a side-effect of not having had a (worthwhile) computer from 1995 to 2002 that I’m still so entertained by things like this. Still, it’s worth a look, and some of the included playsets, which are, for the most part, elaborate Rube Goldberg machines, function well, and move well too.

Incidentally, if you’re into physics games and haven’t checked out N yet, I highly recommend you do so. It’s a physics based platformer that has you running around trying to grab gold and reach the exit, but mostly ends with you dying in exceptionally well animated and hilarious ways. It’s also addictive as hell.
