Are you fat, but like playing videogames too much to even leave the house, let alone head off to a gym? Looks like the Pencoed Centre gym in Wales is the place for you! According to the BBC, as part of the Welsh government’s “Fitter Nation” strategy, they’ve installed PS2s on various pieces of gym equipment. As gym co-ordinator Paul Morgan puts it:
We had new equipment at the gym and there is individual television screens on them which are PS2 compatible.
Lucky they didn’t buy those PS2 incompatible TVs. “It is a great idea to provide PS2s to encourage youngsters to take more exercise and still have fun,” says Gerald Kelly, General manager at the Sony UK Technology Centre, who donated the 12 consoles used. No word on what the games are, and I can’t quite pick it from the picture above. I’m guessing there’s EA Sports titles, and probably a Need For Speed or some such. GTA, probably not so likely. Paul Morgan again:
A lot of children go home from school and start playing on their games consoles and don’t do any exercise, so we thought if they could do that at our facility maybe they would come.
That’s probably true. Good on Nintendo for setting up Camp Hyrule to help out with that one too.
