I’ve just put together an article detailing the probelms with Midway Games, which has gone up on Gameworld Network. It’s called The Failings of Midway, whch is a pretty crap name for an article - it was my “work in progress” title, and I kind of assumed it would be changed by an editor, but there you go.
Anyway, it’s basically this post, but with the swearing taken out, which should make my girlfriend happy; she commented the other day that she doesn’t like it when I swear on the site. Personally, I think swearing is both clever and funny, but I guess you can’t please everyone. The main difference from the post to the article is my discussion of Blue Ocean marketing, which is something that most Nintendo fans should be familiar with - it’s essentially the practice of aiming products at a market that hasn’t been oversaturated. Brain Age/Brain Training is probably the best example of this.
There’s also a review of Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires that I did up on the DB Magazine website. It’s an okay game, but it’s just so damn similar to the other titles that I really couldn’t give it a good review. One thing I did enjoy that I didn’t have space in the review to discuss was the create-a-character feature, though the fact that your created characters can then be drafted to enemy warlords as generals is a bit bothersome. Rushing into battle, only to die at the hands of Li Gayhole was certainly an experience.
