Because I’m slack, and all that, the following things happened on either Thursday or Friday without my writing about them here:
Firstly, there was an interview I did with Martin Bell over at GameSetWatch. He’s working on a remake of Carrier Command, which was one of my absolute favourite games while I was growing up. Thing is, he’s doing it just because he was interested in learning how to do 3D grpahics properly, and to maybe get some work in the games industry. Sounds like he’s achieved both his goals, as Carrier 2, as he’s called it, is looking very nice, and he’s working for Bizarre Creations.
Mostly, I just had a lot of fun asking questions about a game that we both love. GSW editor Simon Carless notes that the “interviews on remakes work really well, because they’re often versions that people haven’t spotted”. I guess this is true, and I’m certainly on the lookout for other remakes. If you know of any, leave me a comment and let me know.
The other was a piece on the history of the Metroid series - kind of a follow up to my Zelda history a while back. Like the Zelda one, it was a hell of a lot of fun to write. The Metroid one is only 3,500 words though - a sharp drop from the Zelda one, which was a hefty 5,000. Next up is a Pokemon one, I think, and then the Mario one, which is going to have to be at least 7,000, considering how many damn Mario games there are.
